A friend has been made redundant exactly one month before her 50th birthday, thus excluding her from taking her pension at age 50 ( local government pension scheme. ) Has she any redress? She is not in a union.
Normally leaving an employer does not alter the age at which a pension can be drawn.
I have a deferred company pension (I no longer work for them), which includes the option of retiring at 50. If I was still working for them at age 50, I could elect to retire and take the pension.
I would check with the terms & conditions of the pension scheme and find out for sure whether your friend can take the pension at 50, and if not at what age can they start taking the pension.
