Printer prob

I have an 2 year old Canon MP 170 printer which shows `Check Ink` on the screen, which I duly did and they are ok for ink, and nothing happens when I try to clean the heads, and other matters. Please, can you help?

No need to reply I`ve been advised to buy original cartridges as I`ve been refilling them myself, so I`ll try that
