I have a DVD +/- RW 12x drive, and lately its taking ages to read a dvd, ie for it to appear in My Computer (win xp sp2). Anyone have any ideas? Thanks IA.

since ive installed sp2 mine takes approx 15 seconds to pop up and ask me what player to play it in. how long is yours taking?

Longer than that! Iv had sp2 since it came out a didnt have problems then - its seems to have happned over night, and iv not installed and new software

perhaps your drive needs to be cleaned. do you have another drive to try it in? if so does that one take just as long? or maybe you have too many programs running. try going to msconfig and see what you have running at startup. sorry im not giving you a straight up  answer but im trying to narrow down the possibilities.
