hi

i need some help

my computer ix xp and its been affected with spyware, the computer has gone slow and there are adult/porn programs installed automatically and will not be deleted

everytime i go on the internet the adults sites pop ups appear  

what can i do

i think we have viruses on the computer aswell, we did have norton anti virus but that has stopped working   does anyone no what we can do?  thankyou in advance

ps im not sure if those adult sites that have installed itself on the computer are charging me anything  any ideas?

Go to www.download.com and download Ad-aware 6.0 and Spybot Search & Destroy. They are free for a limited time. Update both pieces of software then run both of them. They will get rid of virtually all that rubbish. Also get yourself a good pop-up blocker. Panicware pop-up stopper is free on the above site. If your PC is still slow then defragment the hard drive regularly. Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Disk Defragmenter. You should do all I have previously mentioned every two weeks or so.

First of all, when you are connecting to the internet, make sure it is dialing the correct number, as spyware can change your dial up number.

Then do exactly what gerry says. When you download Ad Aware, get the SE personal edition 1.05. Update this regularily to remove new threats.

After this I would recommend uninstalling Norton from your pc (unless you are still paying for it). Go to http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2/ and download AVG free edition (better than Norton in my opinion, and free!). This should auto-update for you.

Finally, if you dont have service pack 2 for XP, then get a firewall. A decent free one is available at: http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/company/products/znalm/freeDownload.jsp

Most of this info I got of guys from this site when I hit a bit of trouble like yourself, and my pc is fine now.

I would also recommend getting AVG virus scan for good measure aswell as Ad-Aware SE professional and Spybot-Search and Destroy. The three combined should get rid of everything. I used all 3 of those combined and got rid of absolutely loads of viruses on my computer.
