since my computer refused to browse the net wirelessly (wired connection is fine), ive noticed on here many many people getting the same problem. id like to know 2 things.... 1) if you managed to resolve this, HOW? and 2) is there something wrong with wireless tech design or something? how come so many people get the same problem and why wont my ISP or my computer manufacturer take ownership of this problem?
make sure you have the latest drivers for your wireless
uninstall as much of your wireless kit as you can (including the hardware)
reboot
start again.
the only real difference between wire and less is the ssid and the wep key ...
log on to the router and check that the ssid is what you think ..... same with the wep key.
check to see if you have MAC filtering enabled (you should!)
Can't remember if you are xp or vista
both have a wizard setup option ... use it
enter the details from your new notes
starting from scratch is a pain but for a novice it's easier because the wizard takes you logically through the options.
make sure you have your broadband ID and Password
if all else fails you can return the router to factory settings
(you shouldn't neet to ... but just in case)
your router's homepage (192.168.1.254 - actual address varies depending on brand)
your wep or wpa key (on side of router)
the SSID you are using (either the default (on side of router) ... or look on the routers homepage if it was changed
be certain you have all the info before you start!!!
and remember if you do reset router you won't have online instructions!
take it down then re-build.
it's pretty straight forward and VHG's link is good
