hi my 7 month old baby lexi has almost given up on her milk feeds this has been going on since she was 5months she has a 6 ounce bottle at night with a rusk in a 5 ounce bottle in the morning with half rusk and one 5 once bottle of milk round 4ish and food in between is this normal im worrying that shes not getting enough milk as guidlines state that babies need at least 20 ounces until theyre one year old! ?
is that a typing error?
Rusk IN the bottle with milk? You realise this is a choking hazard, don't you?
I wouldn't worry about the amount of milk she is having, she will drink what she needs BUT you are filling her unnecessarily so she won't drink as much will she?
Both my 2 went completely off milk once they knew that there was an alternative! In fact, my eldest son refused it point blank and has done ever since. He's 11 now!!! Plenty of calcium containing foods, like yoghurt etc from now on...and don't worry about it!
By the way rusk in the milk is a bit chavvy you know!!!
never mind a rusk in milk being chavvy its downright dangerous and can lead to abnormal weight gain. ithink you will find that if you get rid of the rusk that your baby might have more of an appetite for the milk plus 3 btls a day for a 7mth old while having normal meals a day is pretty normal. food is what babies thrive on and milk is really just a healthy drink at this age.
I personally wouldn't put a rusk into a bottle, but I don't think there are any hard and fast rules about how much milk your baby needs. My midwife told me that it's best to give milk until the child's 2 year's old, and in fact, because one of my children was poorly when he was young, that's basically all he had until then. He's now 10, and has a very healthy body.
