Does anyone know a good pneumonic to remember the order that the planets are in distance from the Sun ???

The last answer can't have been right.  There are 2 Sss in the statement but there is only Saturn beginning with S and where is the P for Pluto?

A penumonic, huh? No, but I could provide a mnemonic: Men Vote Earth Most Jolly of Sun's Nine Planets. You have to remember that the O in "of" doesn't stand for anything.

I can never remember the mnemonics but did find a system on the web which I taught my kids years ago and we can now all remember the order. Basically it is about mentally placing objects in corners and walls of the room . So in the first corner to your left you imagine a marker pen (Marker sounds like Mercury!) then on the wall you imagine a V necked sweater (Venus) in the next corner you imagine a giant ear (Earth), we then have a window which we imagined a giant marshmallow hanging in front of it (Mars) , in the next corner a glass of juice (Jupiter)on the next stretch of wall imagine a picture of Satan (Saturn), in the next corner picture a Greek urn (Uranus) then on the wall or window behind you picture water (easy for us as we have a pond!) Neptune, finally you imagine a plate spinning on the floor (Pluto) - you need to go through it a few times and test yourself on where everything is, but we did it as a game and I just tested my daughter to see if she could remember it still and she reeled them off with no problems she doesn't even need to work around the room anymore

Thanks for these.  I did laugh at my spelling of PNEUMONIC!!  Would you believe that when putting that into the GOOGLE search engine, it comes up in so many official education sites spelled incorrectly, what hope do we have.  I do stand corrected and shows you're never too old to learn !!!!!
