I have in the past, chatted to people on line...........emailed on a daily basis...
this chap, had made very little effort to know me..........but very keen to meet me next weekend.

kind of difficult question cause it seems pretty harsh to judge someone on looks, but... my answer would still be no.
seems that you have already made up your mind anyways and it seems like the best decision cause, as you said, you don't have that much in common. i'm sure it would be different if you guys got on really well and couldn't stop chatting and texting. why is he/she so keen anyways? seems a bit strange, hey?

hi luckyfish, yes absolutely, I thought if we had got this rapport going, loads in common, lots of chat and laughs, then I would of given it a go...........
but nothing..........

It's a shame that we have to be so cautious, isn't it? A lot of people, for all manner of reasons, don't have access to a varied social life - so how DO you meet someone, unless it's via internet chats, or penpal sites - whatever. Suppose you could always ask your female friends if they know of an unattached decent person, but even that's not forced to work out is it? Perhaps it's right to say that, yes, if the guy's genuine, but just eager to meet up with you, then he'll slow things down for a bit, and allow the two of you to talk, swap pics etc., for a lot longer, before suggesting a meeting again. x

I have got to a point where I am actually quite happy............well sort of..............being single, as I am pretty busy with work and looking after my children...
Just fancied a break from it all
But yes, I am very suspicious ... and I think , had this chap really had an genuine interest in me, he would of made any sort of effort........rather than just a "would love to meet you" text at 7 this morning!

ice, i understand your point - in this day and age it is a bit more difficult to meet people the 'old fashion' way...
i suppose it's better to know, sooner than later, what the person you're talking to looks like. looks play an important role in attraction to a person and so by meeting them quite soon you can establish where you would like the relationship to lead, friendship or other.

I think it has, yes, but on the other hand, it's the ONLY way for some people, isn't it? Actually, i didn't mean that by seeing what a person looked like you could base a decision on whether to meet them - or even if you liked them - or not. I meant that it'd make it easier to spot that person if you were to meet!
I personally don't judge a person by their looks, although it obviously helps if you find them attractive. Even so, I'd never have any preconceived ideas about forming a more lasting relationship, just based on a first meeting. I like people with personality, depth of character...all sorts of attributes, which you wouldn't recognise in the space of one or two meetings. All of us are different though. I've known girls who've met a guy one night, and almost had their wedding planned by the end of the week!! That rarely works out!
