Children's programme from the late 60's early 70's....

Does anyone remember the name of a scary (for me at the time anyway) black and white children's programme from the late '60's early '70's that resembled the wintery, forest scene with angular, dwarf-like creatures from the Smirnoff advert a few years ago? Sorry for the vague description, but it's the best I can do.
