Why are so many people on benefits?

From reading many of the posts here, many are about benefits. Why are so many people here on benefits?

I don't think it is that way round, I think that people looking for advice on benefits found the site and stayed!!!!

I can't think what question brought me here to answerbanks shores but it certainly wasn't benefits.
But I have gained many of them from this site including meeting a lot of nice people.

i think people on benefits get treated better than the people who actually work. Me and my partner work and a few years ago i was made redundant so went to sign on. never been out of work since i left school about 7 9 years previous to this and was told i'd not paid enough n.i contributions. How do those ppl that do nowt claim everything then when honest folk cant get any help off em at all. Summat has to be done about this doesn't it. O.k , there are a lot of genuine people claiming but there prob more falsely claiming benefits than those who are genuine.

as you have tried and failed to get any benefit do you still believe the odd story in the paper about how well the people on benefits live. there are people on benefits who can't afford to heat there house in the winter ,have trouble paying any kind of bill go short of food.you will always get the odd one or two that seem to do well , but for everyone that you read about doing so well i bet you that there is a thousand or more strugling to get by.

O benefits -some people just seem to get the cash lashed at them -my husband was laid off during the foot and mouth outbreak years ago -with no notice.He has never ever claimed benefits -what a rigmarole -he eventually told them to shove it up their arse -he ended up working on the fields for a pittance.Theres a man who has worked all his life and paid into the system which is regularly abused and couldnt even get a wee help until he got a job.I havent ever claimed either
In saying that i know that some have to -my daughter has had to so I dont have a downer on claimants -just the bleeding system.
I chanced on AB cos I wanted to find out something which was niggling me about football and I have been here ever since.Made some great friends and obviously some dont like me but thats life isnt it !!

im on benefits and let me tell u all........ u dont get loads of moni far from it i struggle to pay my way but i get though..... im genuinely on benefit and not one of theses people that refuse to work and just sit on there arse waiting for the govement to pay there moni each week!!!!!!!!!!!! i cant work due to my son having a disabilty but i would love to work, lotsof stigmar comes with claiing benefit but when u have to u have no choice...... so yes we do stuggle but then going in 2 full time work i wld still b no better off
