Regards wizard, I have taken loads of stuff to charity shops recently (the hospital League of Friends actually) in an attempt to declutter my life. All of this stuff is in first-class condition, it's just that I don't need it anymore. It raises in my mind the whole ethos of possessions. I gave away a beautiful box set of Karajan Beethoven Symphonies for example because I knew I would never again listen to them.
I said I'd be opening up a can of worms!!! We don't bin 90% of donations in my shop. We go through it carefully. But the public arn't fools. They have watched too many episodes of Flog it etc. As anyone who has worked in a charity shop knows, all fabrics/textiles are sold for recycling and generate very good money. so always donate old bedding, curtains etc. It doesn't cost us anything to dispose of, but in fact makes good money, even if we don't sell it in the shop. the best part of my job is going through the donations, and the thrill of finding a treasure is like christmas day!!
Sorry, I really didn't mean to open up a can of worms about charity donations. We definitly don,t bin 90% of donations. as Wizard66 should know all textiles we can't sell in the shop are sold for recycling and generate a lot of money. It is only genuinelly items we can't sell that are binned, due to the high bin costs we are reluctant to do this.
