Lost Cat

My one year old cat has gone missing for 3 days. I'm not sure if it is due to the hot weather we have had recently. I know other cat owners who have said their cat has gone off and come back. Why do cats just go off for days ?

Most of the time it is to do with mating males go off to find females, females go off to find males.
Even neutered cats seem to get this call of the wild and off they go, usually nothing to worry about just something to get used to as a cat owner!!

Also remember that cats are still basically wild animals.
You never own a cat - you're just very lucky that it chooses to live with you.
I've been lucky enough to have had cats in my house for about 34 years now.
Some cats choose to live outside in the summer and come back 'home' when the weather gets more wintry.

I agree with these posts, Lady Le B. I know how you feel though: I always get really upset when mine wander for a few days because when my first cat did it, we found her and she'd been run over, so that's always at the back of my mind. However - touch wood - my cats since have always come back home after taking their little holidays just so that I'm aware that they actually own me, not the other way around!

Thank you for your answers.He hasn't come back yet, I'm hoping you're right and he has just gone off on a little holiday. The last time I saw him he was very happy outside and didn't want to come in. As this is his first summer as an adult cat he maybe wants to stay out, as 'silly moo' said.

Yes he is back, thank you. Just after I printed off a dozen missing posters, a friend spotted him in a field near my house, he was a bit frightened and was very hungry. He has been out since and has returned. Thanks again

well i think thay just go of hunting my freinds cat whent of for 1 week and came home with lots of rabbits and iky stuff.lol.:)

My 2 year old cat has been missing for 5 days now ans I am going out of my mind (esp seeing as my dads cat was run over the week before last). I have two cats and one stays in all the time and the other wonders - the wondering one Louis has never been gone longer than 3 days - I have searched my local area and spoken to people but nothing. Tonight I will go out again and post posters and put some up - I hope to god he is ok!! Glad you got your aby back :-)

I only hope you're right because our 5 year old cat went missing yesterday and my son hasn't stopped crying since.
I feel so guilty because she has no collar and is not chipped.
