can a parakeet get over heated  i live in fl and it is verry hot if it does get over heated how hot  does it have to be and how long should i keep my bird outside

I never heard of a parakeet overheating. They are originally from the tropics. I live in southern NJ and I had parakeets in the past. I remember reading a lot about keeping them out of cold and drafty (draughty, I think, for the UK folks) weather, but I do not remember anything about too much heat. That being said, I would not leave a parakeet in a parked car in a FL summer with the windows up. In a cage on your front porch with a nice breeze should be just fine, I'm sure.

Oh yeah, make sure the bird has fresh water at all times.

Parakeets can overheat...but it is very rare...as said before they are from very warm climates, and humid climates.  Some of the signs of overheating in birds, if it happens are open mouths..and  quick breathing...(just like a dog panting), and holding wings open for long periods of time.  As ezapf said...keeping water available at all times definately helps.  Also i found that keeping a small spray bottle that sprays out a very gentle mist will help keep your parakeet cool, and they love it!!

ummm...they probably could but it must get realy incerdibly hot 4 that since parakeet, budgie's the proper name 4 them r native from Australia were i live and yeah it can get very hot out in the outback were they live...
