I was thinking the very same thing, I have read that if you were to get another one (if you are talking about parakeets as in Budgerigars as we say in England) then you must not put them together at first, but let the new one get used to you just as you did the first one, otherwise it wont become had tame. you then need to keep it in a different room to the other one and let it play on the floor of the room. after a few days let it onto the floor of the same room as your other bird so that he can see the new one. then let your older bird out so he can go up and inspect the new arrival. he might start scratching his head and preening him and feeding. if not then try again the next day. the book I have recommends asking the store or breeder if you can take it back if your bird doesn't like him. I hope you get on ok, I am thinking of getting another bird to keep mine company when I'm not there.

We have a 11 year old budgie Jo who we recently introduced to a baby boy, they both freefly and visit each others home, jo is still hand tame, the new one is starting to come round.
