I imagine though that many of the Tory supporters on here will be so disgusted with the cynicism that they'll be donating theirs to charity!
Tell us which charity you'll be donating yours to!

In fact with Tory instincts of non-intervention I suspect he'd have let Northern Rock go to the wall and possibly precipitated a banking crises! - but we'll never know.
I think it's a shame that the way the political system works is that the moment any government senses that they've made a mistake and tries to correct it there are howls of derrision and all the dogs start baying for blood.
The thought of being seen as changing your mind as as much a nightmare to Margaret Thatcher "the lady's not for turning". Despite this she famously did over Europe.
Maybe one day politicians will be able to say we've reconsidered and have changed our minds and be congratulated for it.
But I'm not holding my breath

There's no point in banging on about Mrs Thatcher, or any Tory government - past or future. The fact is that this is a so-called Labour government which has been in office for long enough to put right the faults of the previous government - and they haven't. It seems to me that people aren't baying for blood over one error - this is just the latest in a catalogue of errors. This government stumbles from one disaster to the next and this most recent fiasco seems to be the final straw for many working people.
This stunning act of charity by Darling is costing around 2.7 billion pounds.
Guess how hes "funding" it ? hes borrowing it thats how.
I have a far better way of funding it, and some.......
GET OUT OF IRAQ, GET OUT OF AFGHANISTAN, GET OUTOF THE EU, AND STOP THROWING AWAY 750 Million every year to Africa.
The billions that lot will save this country will make the 2.7 billion seem like mere bagatelle, it would fund more police more hospitals , schools etc etc etc than we would actually know what to do with !! and guess what, there would still be untold billions left over.

It's not a case of me me at all..Yes ..it is my money ..I did earn it .I am quite happy to see some of my money go to to help others less fortunate and I willingly donate to those less fortunate and I am also quite happy for the contributions that I have paid to go into the pot for the NHS and other public services, but ...I am not happy when I have worked to provide for myself with a pension and then I get taxed even more just because I had the foresight to try and not be a burden on the state.

You are right Quinlad, it's our money we earned it and I am very happy to share it with those that need it so that we live in a more equal society with fair distrubtion of wealth and a good social framework. However, I am not happy to stand back and see my money squandered by an incompetent government who dares to still call itself a Labour Government and has for many years blatantly worked towards making the fat cats richer at the expense of the vast majority of ordinary folk.
