Windows 98 2nd edition

As my computer is approx 5 years old and I want to run broadband I need Windows 98 2nd edition. I run windows 98 at present. Is there anywhere I can download the 2nd edition. My computer will not take XP.

i think you are better off getting a new puter. I know if i was in your situation and considering the age of your computer and how outdated it probably is, you might be better off with a new one. Then you will be able to run XP which is by far the best yet. computers can get rediculously cheap these days. I have a Dell dimension 2400 with a flat panel display, dvd burner, speakers, wireless keyboard and mouse for $1000. That was a year ago, now its even cheaper and without the flat panel display its about $450 cheaper than that.

       With all of that said, if that is not an option for you I would buy the 98se disc. That way if you have problems you will have the disc to fix it. In fact if you are using dial up it may take for ever to download that.

I'd try the cheapo option of a new Operating System before getting a new PC. I know that I'd find it fantastically easy to find different versions of Windows so it can't be too difficult.
Ask a friend or colleague if they have a CD of Win 98 2e or (preferrably) Win 2000. I've long since binned the discs I had for Win95 & 98 but still have 2000Pro & XP.

My PC is about 5 years old and works fine with XP but I don't know much about which hardware is compatible with different operating systems.

I've been using broadband with original Windows 98 for almost three years and it works fine.

if you cant fine windows 98 (and thats not a bad thing!) get windows ME. Thats based on the same architecture as 98 and should be easier to find.

Are you sure you need 98se for broadband, or is it just for a setup program or similar from the supplier? I have NTL broadband set up on a 95 machine (admittidly a shared connection, but it knows no different) via with a PCI Ethernet (network) card. If it's because of the hardware/software support needed your end (usb 'broadband modem', network card, setup cds) as opposed to the actual broadband connection itself, then there's probably another way around setting it up rather than changing your os or hardware.

Just fit an internal ADSL PCI modem card at about �20 and off you go.
