Hi,this might sound a silly question.. A while ago we paid someone to trim conifers and cut down a bush, this was done but all the roots of the bush are left with stalks poking up out of ground and looks a right mess.. i was wondering if anyone had any tips on making it easier.. my other half was out in garden for hours last night and only managed to get a handful of roots up.. is there anyway of making this task any easier?? As you can tell im not really an avid gardener... i say concrete the lot!! ;0)

Thanks for any help

I suppose it depends on how big your bush is/was.
I guess you best bet would be to start by digging about a foot away from edge of the root all the way round and dig sort of under the root ball then you can bring the lot up that way.
Dig all around and use pick axe to prise roots up and/or a sharp spade edge or axe to cut through them if they are thick. Try to remove as much of the core as you can - could be a heavy job depending on how big the shrub was.

Thanks for help.... i think it is going to be just hard labour as it was a hedge sorry not a bush ;0) ooops
And the other problem there is is that there is a path right beside where the bush was so it is hard to dig round if you know what i mean... bloody gardening!! thanks for advice, will invest in pick axe ;0)
If you haven't got a pick axe, a crowbar or anything strong enough to lever the root free of the soil so you can cut through it . Have fun!
