Whats the point with surviving rock stars?

Lets face it only the good die young. Would the Stones, Dylan and Clapton be even bigger if the would have had the decency to OD or commit suicide like their colleges.

Think we wouldn't have had to hear Jagger and Bowies Dancing in the streets! It is one thing with Stones and Dylan or a better example AC/DC the don't change that much. Bowies albums the last 25 years are awful and Robert Plant are even worse.

And what about the embarrisicing reunions, don't they have enuff money in the bank.

Sorry Yeah, there is a fundamental flaw in your argument. The 'good' that die young are 'good' simply because they did die young! Legends are easy to create around ageless icons with a short, and occasionally brilliant cache of work. Any of the young guns who died in what ever circumstances, would have grown old in exactly the same way as the artists you mention - they would have continued to rpduce their work, and the chances of some of it being substandard would have increased as they produced more. If you only like the early material of any musician, then listen to that, but it is singularly hearltess to suggest that anyone should die early, simply to prevent some predetermined notion of artistic decay which you have arbitrarily mapped out for them! As for the reunions - if you don't like them don't go and see them! Bowie has consistently produced interesting, if not always critically, or commercially successful work - like he's bothered any more. People can't stay young and gorgeous for ever, be they musicians, or indeed fans - we all grow older one day at a time. Some of us have been destined to provide a body of work that has changed the course of western culture, far more of us have been destined simply to enjoy that work, or not. Musicians do what they do - what else would you have them do - become greengrocers? Come on Yeah, it's Christmas, I'm sure Mr Plant will enjoy his Chritstmas with his family just as much, even though you think he should have shuffled orr around the time of Zep 4! Live and let live.

Wheter the dead legends would have made more exelent music if they had survived is a totally different question, although interesting. A guy like Lennon did his best work a short time before he died. And you said that I should only listen to the early stuff and yeah I do but for the example with Bowie thats like Da vinci on and Etch-A-Scheatch. You also said people can't stay young and handsome but isn't that what they try to do. Mick Jagger strutting on like a 18 year old. Then i will give Clapton and Jimmy Page some respect they have grown older both in mind and body. They don't try to be hipp and cool all the time cuz that is patetich. And with the reunions that is false advertisment. You know i have seen the Wailers and one of them did play on Bobs time. Or Motley Crue is coming out on a reunion tour, as load as ever and fater then ever.

For closure i would like to quate and very wiz man Homer J Simpson

"Why must there be new bands can't the old ones just keep on makin albums"

Actually, what i said was, if you like the earlier work, then listen to that, but I don't think you can castigate a musician for simply carrying on doing what his talent allows him to do, for better or worse, while he grows old. i don;t think Mick Jagger is pretending to be young -  there is simply no precident for The Stones - no young hip guns have grown to their age and still been together and willing, and indeed able, to play the shows they play. If Mick is fit enough to run around, and not need a stool or a zimmer frame, good luck to him! The 'reunions' which feature one member - maybe - are indeed a falsehood, but plenty of bands - Motley Crue included - are up for one more turn around the  block, and if they are pants, we will all see it. the Stones, patently, are not. As for Bowie as 'Da Vinci on Etch-A-Sketch - listen to 'Wild Eyed Boy from Freecloud', you may change your mind. Happy listening.
Bowie is a superb and innovative musician in the true sense of the word!  He is ageless!  So many current bands speak highly of him as being their inspiration.  I actually prefer his current work; it shows maturity and his voice is unique.

Musicians, make music because they love music, not on the off chance of overdosing or choking on vomit. The statement that they have enough money is also stupid,if that was the case lets get rid of all the premier league footballers(don't they have enough money already?)
