Would you consider employing a cleaner?

I'm in a quandry, me and t'other half both work quite long hours and like to have some time to ourselves when we can.

I have arthritis and he has RSI which make tasks like cleaning and ironing more of a challenge.

I feel it's a bit of a cop out getting someone in to help with some cleaning and ironing.

What do you think?

If you cant clean because of medical reasons go for it!!
I dont like people who get cleaners because there too lazy!!

Sounds a good idea in your situation but me myself would hate it, couldnt stand anyone I didnt know going through my things and washing my knickers.

Hi Jenna, sorry to hear that you have arthritis its a horrible painful thing, as is RSI. No wonder you would want someone to help out, would it be expensive tho?

Personally, I love cleaning and ironing as Im freakily tidy lol

Not a cop out at all! My sister works every hour under the sun and has a cleaner, gardener and ironing lady! She sees it as 'buying' free time to do other stuff when she isn't working. If I was on the money she's on I'd do the same!

She's known her cleaner for years now and trusts her with her house keys and alarm code - she even goes in to water her plants and check on the house when she's away.

Her ironing lady is a little old lady who lives round the corner and does the work through an agency for a bit of extra money on her pension (it's all legit and goes through the taxman etc). So in her own little way my sister is helping the aged too! So she can get her ironing done and not feel guilty about it!

i have one but her timekeeping is very poor and she has a habit of flirting with postmen delivery men etc she is though an excellent cook and i throw her a few pounds now and again to buy some sammy shoes or whatever they are called

There is a big trust issue, the thought of letting a stranger in when I'm not there (would rather the same regular cleaner than whoever is available) though I think t'other half would struggle more with that than me as I'm used to living in shared accomodation.

I'd feel bad having them round while I was in as I'd feel like a right lazy cow watching them doing all the dirty work!

Not sure how much it costs, will see if I can find some agencies to find out.

If you can afford it, then do it.

Employing people to assist around the home, or even do the work for you can be considered refined, not scornful. I do it myself.

Doing nothing whilst you are �paying� them to do the service they are doing is the point of employing them in the first place. Besides, you can monitor and assess the quality of their work to make sure you are getting what you pay for and what you expect.

Daft think is I'd worry about the state of the place when they came in so it might even make me tidier haha :)

I wouldn't have them do washing, just ironing and maybe changing the bed.

i agree with octavius they need to be monitored certinally mine does as some take advantage but i suppose that is true of all jobs and if you are not happy dont be afraid to tell them so

I think in your circumstances it would be a good idea to hire a cleaner, I wouldnt worry about the place being a mess, a lot of contract cleaners are so used to seeing much worse filth that they barely blink an eyelid at anything.

I knew someone who used to clean council toilets and she was never surprised at the disgusting things she used to find on a regular basis, I would imagine just cleaning a bit of household clutter will be a breeze!

Though I do have to disagree with SKA. Why not employ a cleaner if you're too lazy? If you've got the financial means to do so, then do it and begga what anyone else thinks.

To be frank (who's he?) I'd employ one myself if I could, I loathe cleaning.

I like cleaning (sometimes) it makes me feel satisfied when I have a nice clean house to relax in, and my mum always says your brain doesn�t work properly if your house is a tip
