How do you whistle using your fingers?

My father can do amazingly loud whistles using varying fingers in his mouth, but is useless at explaining how he does it. As much as I try I just spray saliva everywhere!!! What is the best method to use and how do you do this step by step? Thank you one and all.

fingers in mouth, push tongue back with them, then blow. Its not really rocket science. Saying that I cant snap my fingers so maybe there is predisposition in being able to whistle.

Well I am not too much closer in succeeding in this elusive goal but at least I have had a giggle at the answers so far. Will just have to carry on trying and spitting......at least that often gets someones attention, though usually the wrong person! Cheers

I tried goodsoulette's method and a squeak came out that made the cat scarper. I make more noise by sucking air in with tongue behind bottom teeth!
I can click my fingers though.

I think whistling not only involves the orifice but resonances in the vocal tract.

I cant do it using my thumb and middle finger curled up, like some people do, its a four finger job, both indez fingers, both middle fingers, pushing back the tongue with a tiny gap between.
