I had a couple of friends who used to be involved with some of the trials at the Research Park near to the hospital I worked in. As far as I can see they're still in working order so I don't see the problem with it.
However any reasearch trials in my limited experience can be quite specific in the type of people they're looking to participate.

You obviously haven't heard of the Porton Down volunteers who offered their services free to the government to test out nerve gases. They thought they were in good hands and no harm would come to them. In fact one of them died during an experiment and the remainder have suffered from ill helath years after. Of course the MOD denied any responsibility and it was not until this year they admitted they had done anything wrong.
The moral is don't volunteer for anything, the reward is usually too paltry for an experiment that might go wrong. Why don't you think the companies own employees refuse to act as guinea pigs?

See this is the thing.... There are research trials and what have you being carried out every single day all over the world and we only ever hear about the ones that go wrong. This isn't me sticking up for the MOD by the way, far from it. It's just that if all the scare stories were to be believed we'd never make any new discoveries.
i think it dpends on the type of drugs that are being researched, and the possible risks involved, all drugs carry side effects. Don't forget that a couple of years ago the papers were full of an horrific story of four young men suffering terrible side effects, heads had almost doubled in size and i think even one died. Drugs need to be researched but the companys that do this research are out to make money, its your body and you won't get another one!!!!!!!!
