Heater

Hi ! I want to buy a cheap electric heater for my bedroom, because there's a problem with our central heating at the moment. I have seen fan heaters and convectors. Does anybody know which is the most effective, and also which one uses the least electricity ? Thanks in advance.

Have you considered a 'fan heater' if it's only to be used for a short period of time. They are not expensive to buy, it'll give you a good blast of heat from 1kw to 3kw & will be small enough to store away once your central heating is fixed.

a stand alone convector would be ok, but oil filled electric rads are good, a little costly to run but they are very effective and you don't have to worry about covering it with drying or something and they stay warm after they are switched off.fan heaters cost a bomb to run but the heat is immediate.

We've got a DeLonghi convector heater that we use in the conservatory and it's effect is almost instantaneous when switched on.  Roughly �20 from Argos and well worth the money.

Fan heaters give a good blast of heat but tend to be noisy, especially in a bedroom. For that reason alone I would discount them.

An oil-filled one would be my preference but convectors are ok too, as long as the temperature is thermostat controlled in either type.

Make sure you eliminate draughts or you`ll always be fighting a losing battle, and costs will skyrocket.
