i have been told that my new car i am buying through an internet dealer based in london, will be registered with the supplying dealer for the 1st 26 weeks then the v5 document will be sent on to me.this is to stop people buying these heavily discounted cars & selling them on for an immediete profit. can you tell me if this is safe or legal from my point of view as the purchaser.
dont touch it with a bargepole,im in the motor trade and legally it cant be done, what if your insurance company insist it registered to you or your spouse, its some sort of scam, dont touch it.all you need do is sign a agreement saying you will not sell it for a certain peroid of time,as i did when buying a car from my sons ford garage with a huge discount
The internet company my daughter bought her new car from as pre registered at a massive saving on list price you had the option to transfer title in advance of 24 weeks for a charge of 19 maybe worth enquring if you could do the same.
What does your insurance company say about such a deal. Who would they pay in the event of a total loss? If you have paid for the car it is legally yours but they would be the registered Keeper. The registration document states C4c that the registered keeper is not necessarily the legal owner.
My family has bought 2 cars this way in the past 3 years and has had no problems. Mine was registered in my name the day after initial registration, and I believe my brother's was registered within the first 26 weeks as you describe. Two different dealers, and the cars are still on the drive today. Unless a dealer can match the web discount, I will continue to buy online.
