I live in the north west of england and I have just heard some loud crashes and the house shock.  Did anyone else feel it?  Does anyone know what it is?

Earthquake?

When there was an earthquake in the middle of the night a couple of years ago, my sister said it was as if there was a big lorry crashing into the house (at first she thought it was an earthquake, but then she thought that it wasn't because we "don't get earthquakes in England").  She thought that the house was going to fall down, so she sensibly hid under the duvet.

I have just read that the noise was a "sonic boom" caused by typhoon jet.  Well we dont get that every day.
Gosh, that would do it. (I live in the NW, close to where they make them, but I didn't feel the good vibrations.) Apparently, the Eurofighter accelerates so quickly that on take off the pilot has to release the afterburner immediately in order to stop himself from going supersonic. Ouch!
It definately was the Typhoon jet on a test flight. Caused quite a disturbance by all accounts.
I felt that earthquake which was in Birmingham earlier this year in York - it woke me up.
