Poteen is the name given to a (usually) homemade spirit. So you make it the way you make anyother spirit by distilling alcohol. The source of the alcohol is usually potato. (if iy were grain it'd be whiskey, grape it'd by brandy)

 

Home distilling is illegal and dangerous. Only the middle part ofthe spirit produced by distillation is usable, the first and last parts are poisonous.

Good luck drinking it. I bought some legal Poteen from an off-licence and it was flippin' strong and tasted like lighter fluid.

DON'T TRY ANY OF THE ABOVE. while "good" poteen came be got especially in my neck of the woods (nudge.nudge,wink,wink) while asking someone who knows about this his family have been making the stuff for four generations he says it's very possible to go blind or worse by drinking this stuff if you don't know exactly what you're doing.
