Cat Insurance

I have an 11 year old cat. He isn't currently insured, but we are considering it. Not many companies appear to insure old cats. we have only found one, and the quote came out at �13 per month. What are people's opions/suggestions on this? is it worthwhile us getting insurance? Or shall we just take our chances? Can anyone recommend a good insurer for older cats?

can't help with older cats I'm afraid but here's my experience: My mum got a 3month old kitten last year, perfectly healthy apart from a small hernia where his belly button would be. We were told by a vet it would be fine and would probably heal. However last year on boxing day our poor kitty started being sick and was not at all well coz he'd developed a hiatus (sp?) hernia, ie it was twisted and blocking his bowels. He went in to the vets on Boxing day (imagine the expense!!) and was home the next day. Operation would have been about �300, ended up being �40 (that was the excess we had to pay) through Tesco insurance. Our old cat never had insurance and luckily never needed it but after this happened I would definitely recommend it, and �13 seems ok as our kitten is �6 p/m. Think what it might cost you if he needs a big operation? (ps, anyone who's noticed, sorry I keep posting such long-winded answers, just don't want to leave anything out!)
