wireless router
2 Answers
Hi,
Im looking to buy a lap top for my daughter but was wondering about wireless routers, I have an xp computer and want to get a vista laptop also and was wondering if there is a certain one i need to look for or if all of them do the same job? also my partner has a vista computer and wants to set it up at mine and if that is the case there would be a possible 3 computers, would a wireless router serve for all 3??
thanks for any help ;0)

Wireless routers also allow connection by cable so if one your PCs is near the router you can use a standard RJ45 Ethernet cable for that.
I only have one laptop connected wirelessly to my router so not sure what effect having 3 connected wirelessly would have (although if you can connect one via a wire that only leave 2 to connect wirelesly).

depends what you mean ... will it serve
the router will give you 253 ip addresses (potential connections).
if you are getting better than 512Mb/s you will all be able to surf ok
2Gb will allow you to stream media ... anything more is a bonus ....
if you all intend downloading large files ... you might struggle ... but a 4Gb dsl line is generally thought to be good enough for 10 people doing "Average" use
as for what router ... my personal pref is linksys
but as long as you get a cable / adsl router (as appropriate) you'll be fine.
(you could do worse than look in a couple of mags at your local supermarket) se what the reviews say
