fto in safe mode

does anyone know why my mates FTO auto would keep putting its self in safe mode after about 45 minutes of driving?

2 possible reasons,
1) over heating
2) over heating
OK im not being padandtic but either the rads got a blockage and its getting hot or the temp sender unit is faulty. Its a common fault in sports cars and espically automatics that when they get to a specific temp the engine goes into safe mode to prevent them from seriously overheating. Good luck anyway.
