vista to word

hi guys i have a cv which was writen on a friends computer on windows Vista 2008 (Word), i then emailed it to my computer to print it at home on my computer (XP Home word 2005) and my computer will not open it. can anyone help me please

if it's still on your friends computer get them to open it and the re-save it using save as in the file menu and select an earlier version of word as the format to save it in.

If it's not still on their computer email it back to them and ask them to open it and do the above and send it back

It has nothing at all to do with Vista or XP, it is just the 2 differnet Word progs you're using. Chucku has the only answer that I'm aware of, had it been the other way around there is a small download from Microsoft that converts a 2003 file to a readable 2007 but I have never used it the other way around. I wonder f Open Office would open it for you, it's free, you could try it

There is a download that converts it the other way too. We use it a lot at work, as people tend to just assume that we are using the latest version of Word and email files in.

Unfortunately I don't have the link, as we downloaded it onto our PCs.

2007 uses xml and extension .docx
The Microsoft patch will allow 2003 to open but not savs .docx, it will save in the older .doc.
Open office cannot currently handle .docx but it is being worked on.
