Leaving babies in a car parked on a public road

I am horrified that two children (who I would consider babies) have been left asleep in a car parked on a public road opposite my house - the mother has gone into a house a few doors away with no off-road parking - I don't think she can see the car from the house she is in - I have to go upstairs to see that the babes are ok - that is sleeping still and not crying - I have sat and watched the car to make sure nothing untoward happens - the mother comes out and checks on her children about every 20 mins or so - should I interfere? Has she not been aware of the Maddie McCann situation? When my children were that age I sat in the car with them until they woke up or took them in the house! Am I going mad and being a "net curtain twitcher!!?" - NO i DON'T HAVE NET CURTAINS

insulting me dosent make me understand your point of view any better!
People can be so incredibly stupid, but then of course we all know it doesn't happen to us, does it? This makes me so very angry. Checking every twenty minutes is ridiculous. The babies could wake up a minute after the last check, and be screaming their heads off for the next 19 minutes - and, of course, far worse could happen. Whatever this mother was doing in that house was clearly more important to her than the wellbeing of her babies - and that's tantamount to neglect. Shame on her - and if someone called the police, then it would serve her right. Maybe she'd learn a valuable lesson. Lucky for her - and them - that you watched, Julee.

And Bedknobs - since the 'little darlings' are unable to care for themselves, then they must be protected to the best of a mother's ability - but this mother clearly wasn't giving her best.
I would phone the police too obviously not 999 but your local station. They will be able to give you advice on what to do if nothing else. Let us know what happens please.
I am with bednobs. Why call the Police?

All they will do is arrive, speak to the mother, check the Child Protection register and give her a ticking off, whilst they could be out and about catching other criminals.

Yes there is probably an offence there somewhere, but the Police???

It reminds me of the classic by-stander apathy about a man assaulting a helpless woman. "I stood and watched for twenty minutes and NOBODY did anything!!!!"
