Recommend screening plants

I would like to grow a high (6'-8') dense EVERGREEN along the boundary fence between my neighbour and my home. It will be very close to our houses so it can't be something like Leylandi whose routes could damage the properties. The aspect is South West Facing - soil is sandy - located on NW coast of Southport). Would Privite Hedge be any good? Or any suggestions. (Preferably fast growing)- Cheers

A privet will do the job, as will a Laurel which has bigger more glossy leaves and for me looks better all year round.

Which `routes` is your leylandii going? or do you mean `roots`? lol, just kidding.

Thanks for your answers, I think I will go for the Laurel. I agree its prettier. Silly me for falling fowl of the vagaries of our English Language . lol !
