Can I use the cooking chocolate that you get to make buttercream filling as I have run out of cocoa . many thanks

You can. The consistency will be alright but it won't taste wonderful as cooking chocolate contains a lot of vegetable oil. If you don't have good eating chocolate better just to make plain butter icing maybe flavoured with vanilla extract.

Try drinking chocolate (YUM!) mixed with the icing sugar
