OK slight exaggeration but it made 2 funny popping noises but carried on spinning... By the time I got to the kitchen to investigate smoke was billowing out from the back and the from the washing powder drawer..
Have unplugged it all and pull it away from anything else electrical but is it safe to leave in the kitchen (can still see smoke now although not as much)? Guess its time for a new washing machine....Any thoughts gratefully received as I don't want fire!
Have you opened your window to allow the smoke to escape? Keep an eye on it and if it continues smoking, you may need to safely extinguish anything smoking. Remember its an electrical fire though!
I would think once its stopped smoking, and its not plugged in, it should be ok to keep where it is until you can dispose of it properly. If youre concerned at all, can you put it in the garden til it can be taken away?
hi there!
Just asked a firefighter 4 u, my hubby, he says you have done the right thing, if you are still unsure and you have someone to help; you move the washing machine outside onto a piece of concrete i:e a driveway, but away from any cars. Call an electrician when you can to have look at it. but he says by the sounds of it the poor machine has had it!
Thank you both - why do these things happen when i'm at home alone (and completely devoid of any common sense) .. Guess its off to the launderette for me until the Repair Man arrives...
i was gonna add, ours was making a funny banging noise the other week when it was on a spin cycle, turned out my hubby had left a spanner in his trouser pocket and forgotton to check them before i washed them. luckily the machine seems ok, just grumbles now and again.Hope yours is sorted.
