Godparents

We are having our daughter christened and wondered if there was a maximum number of god parents we would be allowed or is the norm.
We want four and none of them are related although two are aunties to my daughter. The other two are best friends.

Also what is the protocol of asking these people if they would like to be a godparent? We are close to all of them but dont want to offend if they dont want the job and dont want to put them in a difficult position!!

The protocol is to say "could you afford to pay our children's school fees" ??

I go to church, and im sure that the godparents would be pleased that you want them as a godparent! Just say to them, would you like to be a godparent to my child? Its not a problem if you don't want to be, i just think you would suit the job!

It should be at least 3 godparents - 2 women and a man for a girl and 2 men 1 woman for a boy are the minimum and they should all be baptised in that faith themselves. I think it is fairly common to have 4 though

Can I ask if you are religious and why you actually want godparents?

My faith is church of england. yes I believe in god but I dont go to church every week.
