BBC America

Seeing Knobby's comment about Trinny and Susannah made me realise that I have not seen their show here in a long time. I have a channel called BBC America.
We get these shows: Footballers wives, How clean is your house, BBC World news, Cash in the attic and some others. I used to like Teachers, but it seemed to disappear. I also have seen some of Eastenders but could not get into it.
Without being judgemental it seems like these shows are of a lower production than US shows. Do you see a difference too when viewing American TV? Just curious.

I sometimes discuss Brit vs American programs with my brother.....he has always enjoyed 'As Time Goes By'....and several other comedies that ceased production at least 10 yrs ago! Yet we recieve all of the CSI programs,Ugly Betty and Desperate Housewives-among others- within months of them being shown in the States.
I never heard of As Time Goes By.
I try not to post too much about US TV because of the delay and not wanting to spoil it for anyone. All the shows are off for now and I will be waiting for Big Brother (US). It gets on my nerves, but there is little on over the summer hiatus.
Do you watch LOST? Finale was on the other night.

I think this has always been the case. Probably the most popular soap here in the UK is Coronation Street, which has been running since 1960. In the 1980s, I remember reading that Joan Collins (who, once upon a time, had a small role in Coronation Street) apparently received a bigger salary for just one single episode of Dynasty than the stars of Coronation Street receive for a whole year. Its obvious that you guys have a lot more money to splash out on lavish productions (and salaries). Our TV companies just dont have the budgets and I'm afraid its often evident in the end production. It's probably also the reason why a lot of US shows are popular over here. Im a huge fan of American sitcoms and also shows such as CSI, The Sarah Connor Chronicles etc. Im 54 but even as a boy, my favourite shows were American The Beverly Hillbillies, Gilligan's Island, Have Gun Will Travel (to name but a few). Personally I think we Brits would be lost without American television.
