codecs

Hi,
Does anyone know why I get an error on windows media player 10 saying "windows media player could not play the file, one or more of the codecs needed is missing or could not be found"? According to windows, my player is completely up to date, so what can i do about this? I've been to the help section but that is not much help to me.

The longest and most complicated way is to find out what type of file you have, then find out what it is encoded in (eg Xvid / ogg ) and then download / install the relevent codecs.
Or you could just download and install k-lite codec pack. It'll play pretty much anything you come across on the net. Not the preferred method of doing things but infinitely easier and quicker.
and yes it is legal, info and download links here http://home.hccnet.nl/h.edskes/finalbuilds.htm#klcodec
