Does anyone know what the backplate on guitars is for? I have a copy Stratocaster and I know it protects the insides but if I take it off, like what I've seen some of my fellow guitarists do, will it affect 1) the guitar and 2) me?

If that makes any sense...

Thanks guys!

Why would you want to take it off? If it's what I think you are talking about, it protects all the internal springs for the tremolo arm mechanism. Best left where it is.

I actually don't use the trem no more (rhythm guitarist ;D) so I don't really think about the springs when playing and since it's my old guitar, I won't mind what happens to it but if you say 'leave it' then I can understand. I would have thought it would have done something to the cosmetics, I'm trying to 'vintage' it up, if you catch my drift...thanks anyway!
