i take it for heart and brain, but it's also recommended for arthritis (hasn't had any noticable effect on mine).
Ethanron's right, but you need to take it in capsule form, not the liquid, because it tastes foul - and gives you wind!!

On the whole it is safe and beneficial for most people - I can't take it as it aggravates my asthma.
Cod liver oil has a high concentration of omega 3 fatty acids, of which research has shown:
1) increases the bleeding time.
2) decreases "stickiness" of blood platelets.
3)decreases viscosity of the blood.
Thus decreasing the tendency to thrombosis.
2000mgms taken daily preferably in capsule form is beneficial. The association of omega3 for arthritis is more contraversial though.

Thank you all for your input......If I can now be a little cheeky and ask your advice on quantity as I have approx two months to reduce my cholesterol or else I'm going on statins....I just bought high-strength Garlic to take along with CLO......
