Hmmm, anyone know how i stop my windows automatic updates from doing it all the time. I want it so that i can chooose when i want it to update. Ever since i downloaded ie7 its automatically doing it. Its really frustrating me, i wanna lash out... cheers :)
Click on Start, then Control Panel, then on Security Centre and switch the automatic updates off. Just switch it back on when you have time to receive updates.
no it stops bad things being able to gain access to your computer by restricting and blocking the things that can get through. the built in windows firewall is better than nothing but it's not great, you'd be better off downloading and installing zone alarm for a decent free replacement.
A Firewall is there to stop others from remotely getting into your PC, but Microsofts version is pretty useless. Better of with Comodo or Zone Alarm. Just google them.
If you do turn automatic updates off make sure you download the fixes pretty soon after they come out.
When Microsoft announce there is a security hole in Windows that they have fixed then the virus writers act quickly to write viruses to exploit the hole.
They know that not everyone will get the fix on so it leaves a nice open hole in Windows for them to exploit.
Make sure you install the updates as soon as you can.
