i totally agree with you!! i couldnt understand it when kelly holmes got made dame kelly holmes just for winning a couple of gold medals at the olympics? did linford christie become a sir when he won his medal? no i dont think so and why should they
It all comes down to the Government's motives for awarding honours. Some of the honours go to people who genuinely deserve them, for example those working voluntarily to help disabled, etc.
Others get them for doing the government favours.
Others get them as an incentive to work in the public sector, eg permanent secretaries in the Civil Service, Chief Constables, etc., as if the salaries thee guys get are inadequate.
Then there are the celebs, sportsmen, actors, musicians and people like Parky. The reason usually given is "For services to Sport, Entertainment, etc"
I suspect the real reason for them being showered with honours is that they are popular with the public and if the government gives them an honour some of the popularity will rub off on them. Personally, it only makes me despise the whole system more, particularly when they do ridiculous things like give awards to the whiole England crichet squad for winning 40% of their home matches in a series against one country, or give the 1966 World Cup team an honour thirty-odd years after the event, but coincidentally just a few weeks before the current team go to a World Cup.
I can't understand it either, I mean, goodness me, he cant sing or play football.

Next year Sir wayne rooney. (monkey boy)
Parky got his for 'services to professional Yorkshire-ism' - and on that basis, well-deserved too!

Who else could say the word 'moooooooovies' and make it sound quite so ludicrously bolted-on to his usual Trueman'esque speech patterns.

As a 'personality' the man is a buffoon, but he is a seriously good sports writer, which is what he should have remained, and kept his dignity.

If anyone should have had a knighthood, it's Rod Hull!!
I love parky to me he,s a national treasure,He,s been on tv for so many years,He,s cool calm an collective and he makes people feel at ease(yes iv met him so maybe im biased)but you no why shouldnt he be knighted he,s not a flash in the pan celeb,He,s done lots of fab work over the years so good on you parky.
No worse than 'Sir' Trevor McDonut.

I quite honestly think both of them are useless.
His son runs the pub at the foot of Windsor Castle where they all buy bacon butties in the morning!
