Interview excuses??

I'm working full time and desperate to move on, have filled out lot of application forms recently and thankfully got two interviews coming up in mid June. thing is its such a small environment were I currently work and everybody knows everybody else's business, this is part of why I want to get out as it borders on the intrusive. So dilemma is what excuses do I use that they won't grill me on afterwards or is it better to tell truth that am going for interviews. I didn't really want to do that but I'm not very good at bluffing ...any ideas??

My advice is to book the � days holiday and announce that it is for a job interview, and make noises about your pay not being very good/wanting a pay increase.

I have done this � no one in the office seriously believed that I was going to a job interview � they never found out either, because I didn�t get the job.

if your boss is male gyne appointments are never questioned ;-) lol

I had this exact same problem recently. I work for a company where there are only 4 of us altogether. I managed to get two interviews and they were both short notice. For the first one I couldn't book day off as my colleague had a meeting the same day and f I had asked for day off they would have said no as they need me to man the phones. For this interview I ended up having to pull a sicky. Never feel good about it but has to be done sometimes. Anyway they didn't find out and I didn't get the job.

Next interview I had was also short notice. I managed to re-arrange this one to be latest possible slot in the day so that I could just tell employer that I was leaving early for doctors/dentist etc.

Didn't get this job either and more importantly haven't been found out that I am looking a job.

It can be difficult arranging to have interviews and fitting them around your job without arousing suspicion. I too wondered if I should just tell my employer the truth that I was looking around. I have decided this is def not a good idea cus what if you tell them you want to leave but you don't get the job.

I have always taken interview time as holiday time, nobody could ever accuse me of using works time for anything other than work.

Thanks guys for taking the time to get back to me.I can't book time off for holiday because I'm a teaching assistant and so my holidays are same as the kids. Re making it a Dr or dentists appointment yes that'd be my only option except as I say I'm a pretty poor bluffer and they all want to know what the problem is , who you saw, what's going to happen next etc. It's a pretty intense atmosphere and I'm sure they all mean well and just interested and caring but some things are just private.Dr's and dentists appointments are also strongly advised out of school hours. Oh and they all know I've had a recent smear test because I had that booked, someone asked about my appointment whilst in the staff room and I told them .should obviously have said "private" but was caught off guard....! Guess an assertiveness course would be good too!
