"House for sale" boards (multiples of)

To increase the chances of selling a house, is it still legal to erect say, 3-4-5 different estate agents boards in front of a house? I seem to recall it was outlawed a few years back mainly on "eyesore" grounds

You can. I worked at an Estate Agents for a while, and vendors often had several agents working for them, all with boards up. This was only about 2 years ago

Class A3 Town and Country planning act allows 1 advertising board per property unless they are joined together as one board. This rule applies even if the property has two seperate frontages. Therefore it is contravening the act if more that 1 separate board is displayed

Its actually the Control of Advertisement Regulations 2007. See schedule 3 Class 3A - this gives deemed consent for a board or two joined boards of certain dimensions. Displaying any more boards than this is a criminal offence and the offending company can be prosecuted.
