The following are all towns/cities outside Europe. The clues are a mix of cryptic, anagrams and odd (eg Hirritate = Hanoi) and often lead you to an answer that sounds like a city (eg Journey for Mr Hardy = Trip Ollie =Tripoli). Here we go then. (PS I've got some ideas, but won't influence you with them)

1) Tie up a Thor Heyadahl vessel

2) Look! Obey! Now look closer.

3) An ice-cream war man's beach

4) Frank Sinatra's lost his money

5) The fair city

6) The Jack of Diamonds was the downfall for the youngster from here

7) No longer suspiring

8) Named for Sir Arthur

9) Toilet's functional

10) Python recording

11) Fashionable a while back

12) 22/17 in Greek

13) ABCDEFGHIJKLMNPQRSTUVWXYZ

14) antidote for malaria

15) Ms Liddell leaps

16) Sound of a sick vehicle

12. Cairo?  (Believe that 22nd Greek letter is Chi and 17th is Rho, so Chi-Ro = Cairo)
17. Phoenix  (ie. River Phoenix the actor who died young)
15. Alice Springs (Alice Liddell was inspiration for Alice-in-Wonderland)
6 = Cincinatti (famous stud poker game in the film, "The Cincinatti Kid").
19. Shiraz (Town in Iran - seems to be altenative name for Syrah grape - perhaps used more by the French but not sure about that bit)
11.  Chicago (Chic + ago)
Question Author
You are doing really well moose. I'd thought of Shiraz, but never heard of a town. The others are so obvious once you've got the answer. I've done the other 80 odd! Keep 'em coming!!

10. Montevideo  (Monty Python + video recording)

4) Singapore (singer poor)?
1) Ankora  (Anchor Ra, Heyadahl's first papyrus boat)
5) Dublin, Ohio / Dublin, California?
Question Author
Thanks Marsh. I thought there must be another Dublin somewhere and I'd tried all sorts of combinations with 'moor'; didn't think of anchor.

Think its Ankara but good answer!!!  Was stuck trying to make an anagram of Kon-Tiki !!!

Also not sure about Dublin but it's the only thing you have so far.  Just seems a bit too cheeky a clue!  :0)

Have dodgy answers for 13 and 14.  Do you want me to post or see if anyone comes up with anything else?

Question Author
Stick them on the site Moose. At least it gives someone a chance to say its not 'so and so' because...

13. Quito (The capital of Ecuador - No O in the list so it could have quit, doesn't flow though.)

14. Buenos Aires (Believe it translates as Good Air where as malaria is Bad Air - again not perfect though)

What do you think?

Question Author
The only thing I could think of for ABC... was Tokyo (Took O), so i suppose it could be either. BA looks OK; I've tried mucking about with quinine, chichona and DDT and got no where, so I'll probably use that. You've got until Jan 4th if you have any more bright ideas. Cheers!

13) Noto, Japan.

Thanks moose, I hadn't noticed the abscence of O till you pointed it out.

On the grounds that a failed idea can still help someone else, I offer a non-functioning toilet (or even two) Boguslav, once part of the USSR.
18) Port Stanley
Question Author
Thanks for those Marsh. I'd got Port Stanley and decided the toilet is Lookan in the Phillipines. Just submitted the answers as they had to be in tomorrow am. Thanks again.
