What are the advantages and disadvantages to buying electrical goods overseas? I'm heading to the US soon and maybe tempted by buy a new laptop whilst there if there is a deal to be had. Apart from the obvious factor of a different plug, what are the advantages and disadvantages to buying electrical goods such as laptops overseas? Thank you.

The keyboard will be US layout, which is physically different to UK layout.

Can't think of any. other reason not to, if you can get it past customs
Support. If your laptop goes wrong the day after you get back to the UK then you will find it very hard to get support.

The customs MAY stop you (I was stopped once when they thought I had bought a laptop abroad). They can quickly see if it is a laptop bought in the US (keyboard, documentation etc).

If customs DO stop you they will hit you with a tax bill PLUS a fine.

Cheers for those answers. Seems like it's just not worth the risk. I'll just wait until there's a good sale on here in the UK.

Thanks for your help.
