Can I use PTFE tape with compression joints in water pipes?

Is it ok to use PTFE tape when repairing a copper drinking water supply pipe with a compression fitting

Yes it is ok. But done properly there should be no need to use PTFE. The olive of the compression fitting alone will seal the joint unless you have over-tightend it and crushed the olive that is. When fitting a compression joint hand tighten the nut then just give it a half turn with a spanner, turn on the water and check for a good seal. If the joint does weep a little then simply give it another quarter turn and repeat till it is water tight. An over-tightend crushed olive will always leak and is best removed and done again with a new olive rather than trying to mend it with PTFE tape.

PTFE tape is for male joints but you could put it on compression joints if you wanted but it does not go on the threads it needs to go around the olive, but a properly installed compression joint shouldnt need it

ive used ptfe tape on compression joints and they been fine but like the other 2 have said you dont need it

when sealing a compression joint it is advisable to use a recommended seal ie jet blue water portable type there are many types available at any diy store
you can use ptfe just make sure that is is not over the pipe or this can cause partial blockage particuly if there are strainers present
all you have to do is rap around the olive clock wise so when you tighten the fitting it does not unravel
