I am shocked by this story, the wee girl is 18 months old and is obese! Her mother says she can't get her to eat any healthy food, can't she see the danger she is putting her in by allowing her to get to that weight? I am flabbergasted.

BUT the mother needs to be helped. The child wont starve and obvuiously isnt a fussy eater as she will try what they are eating.
in todays society yes it will be seen as child abuse, id say its laziness on the part of the parent which could result in illness.
I heard recently that a house that is untidy (not filthy but untidy) can be classed as child abuse. i couldnt beleive that one!

I wouldn't class it as abuse as there should be intent, but I would call it negligence - the mother is neglecting to provide the child with a healthy diet and failing to get help and advice.
I know there are thousands of people who were very 'fussy eaters' and grew in to fit and healthy adults but this does seem a little extreme.

I think that the Daily Mail just loves to point fingers and tut at the lower classes.....

Chocolate, crisps, cereal and Coca-Cola, that poor child is going to have some serious problems if something's not done.
I hate to imagine how her tiny body is coping with all the fat, salt, sugar and other artificial crap as it's trying to develop.
She's being put at serious risks of so may potential diseases and problems.

Aww its not fair to be negligent to your child.R had excema and asthma (fairlyy bad) and I banned all E additives from his diet and subsequently J's diet as well as she was asthamatic-spent my lunch half hour trailing shops which didnt have E additives in them so they could have treats like a packet of crisps. No coke-really nothing that was delish -poor souls -I just couldnt suffer them barking at night and having to get the Doc out with the nebuliser - just diluting juice or fresh juice -no additives -well lo and behold it bloody worked -after a little while but I was rigid. They havent suffered since.
However the pair of buers now wolf anything they can down their throats -but at least we got the asthma 'cured' and it didnt affeft their 'growing' years.I still have that E for additives book -well thumbed by me and my friends -its pain staking but worth it it in the end !!

hayis, I didn't read the story I just saw a picture of the mother and can safely confirm it is child abuse.
Note the cheap shell suit hoody, the cheap gold Elizabeth Duke earrings and the smokers smile. Combine this with the fact she was probably paid a few grand by The Daily Mail and I can guarantee none of this will go in the wee girls childs trust fund and you should realise where I am going with this.
I doubt very much a father is on the scene, and given the fact the mother is probably the local bike, only God knows what the girls gene pool really is.
British scum at its very worth.

I worked long bloody hours and had a stressful job but even tho most night I didnt even get my jacket off until the back of 9 I made sure that R and J ate healthily.
I had them up once I was ready at 7 with a proper breakfast -not fried -and we all sat down together -I got into work after a 15 mile journey and most mums-who lived in Dundee) were coming in -just before 10 -doing their make-up and wondering how I managed to COOK breakfast for my kids -easy -they need a good healthy start to the day -how simple is that.Whats a mum for -I have a friend whose kids have excema and dermatistis -its genetec -she relies on creams but I have seem the kids crying sore when the cracks open -its painful spoesh when she ladles them with junk cos its easier.I love having them and pampering them -she isnt a bad person but she could do more.BYW -I havent been a perfect mum -I have had to learn along the way but as far as health issues are concerned you have to do your best for your children - the fact mine revelled whenever they got out my clutches makes me laugh !!!What a miserable life they must have had -lol !!

I look forward to watching the programme, but if she is going to say that it comes down to money i.e. healthy eating is expensive then that is no excuse! You can buy fresh meat, fruit and veg relatively cheaply in most supermarkets nowadays. I think that as a parent the mother should have been making sure that the wee girl eats more healthily. One of my best friends wee boy was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of two and she has struggled to find sugar free treats for him, but by god she has managed to find them and a local shop now stocks a good supply that goes down well with most kids.
