Leave it, do not pop it,
leave it john, it will burst on its own!!
The blister forms because there has been heat due to rubbing, the blister is natrue's way of protecting the skin under the blister, the liquid acts as a cushion, popping it will cause more damage to the underlying tissue.
sorry nannon, I read 4gs above and for some reason though he posted the question...?
Cazzz I've never had a blister but I've treated loads of the blighters
No, don't pop it you may end up getting it infected.
If ir is MASSIVE as you say, painful and in an inconvenient spot i.e on the ball of your foot, then no harm will come if you pop it. Sterilise a needle or razor blade in a hot flame or antiseptic, clean the area with antiseptic e.g Dettol and just prick the blister and squeeze out the fluid. Apply antibiotic cream. If this proceedure is difficult due to implements then leave well alone. The problem with a blister on the sole of the foot, is that it will burst when you walk on it and be very painful and may become infected.
Oh dear I do tend to burtst mine and I have never had an infection because of and I find they clear up quicker. But thats just me.

oh well - it popped anyway! It was on top of my foot and put my flip flops on and it burst! Hmmmm...have put antiseptic cream on it so hopefully no infection....
Not to worry. As you can see by the answers, it realy doesn't matter whether you pop or not as long as asepsis is uppermost in your mind.
