22 d Can someone explain why this should be tyres please. I know that a doughnut can be called a tyre. But why plural, and how does the rest of the clue fit? Or am I completely up the Swanee? steven
I am very sorry not to have given the full clue. "Doughnut goes around with middle lowered" And thank you for the correct answer. I couldn't get myself off the "tyres" tramline even though I couldn't fathom out why it might be right. It was the fact that a doughnut can be called a tyre (says the OED) that trapped me.
Thanks to you all
steven
