When you get a quote for car insurance why do they need to know your occupation - even if its for private use only?

because some occupations are classed as a higher risk than others, I believe that journalist is one of the highest, I assume they think you may offend somebody and get your car damaged due to it. think members of the armed forces are quite high too.

Think footballers are THE highest though... may get car damaged by rival fans.

And racing driver, well you can imagine what they might be like on the road :-)

Bit much if you're a careful driver but happen to be in one of the higher bracketed occupations!

When I was doing mine on line last time I clicked on the list of occupations and was amazed at some of the things listed......juggler, escapologist, spaceman, batman, not your average occupations lol

not really, as I said it's not your driving that is causing the risk, it's the increased risk your car may be in due to your profession.

As I pointed out a professional footballer may very likely get their car wrecked by a rival fan, how carefully the footballer drives has no bearing on that but it is still an increased risk on a claim being made so the insurance companys cover their backs by charging more.

There were so many more ludicrous ones too ChuckFickens but I can't remember them now. Amazingly, HGV driver wasn't listed which was the one I wanted ! (For hubby....not me lol)

if the policy holder works in the motor trade then he /she cant drive someones elses car using their own insurance for cover......or so we were told anyway.
