Tom Tom gets my vote too :)
Gotta admit I use my head, but I was a multidrop delivery driver for several years so kinda know my round anyhow.

That said when I have had a satnav and I've used them just for the hell of it it did sometimes try to take me some very strange routes, they will get you to your destination but if you have local knowledge there will be occasions when you will be thinking "what the hell do you want me to go that way for"
Roooiiighhttt

Just turn left past the burnin 'aystack and staight past the woman the webbed feet

Sorry 4get lol

Oooh you dont want to go that way you'll end up right at Bernard Matthews front door :-) lol
The only drawback I found was that I was in the middle of Redcar trying to find a parking space, which Tom knew where it was but had no concept of one way streets!

"turn left now" it was telling me, obviously I could, so would turn right so he would redirect me, but it always took me back to that spot!

I ended up shouting at it, how sad is that LOL
I might still be in the 'don't know' category except Iwas given a Tom Tom as a present and have found it really useful.
Driving alone - no need to keep stopping to refer to a map. Excellent in a town I've not been to before - difficult to concentrate on traffic and trying to remember '2nd on the left after the statue of Queen Victoria' at the same time. Also very good when en route to somewhere and you hit a roadblock or get seduced by an intriguing little brown sign promising cultural delights just around the corner. Having meandered 15 miles down the road, the fact that it automatically recalculates a new route (or at least gets me back onto the original one) is really handy.
Don't have one but used several makes, if I was spending my money I would buy a Tom Tom. Easier to use, update and clear screen. Some others are busy and difficult to update.

Thanks portland
tom tom here also

agree with chuck about the inventive routes ... but when you are lost ...

I tend to look on autoroute or google maps to get an idea of the overall picture ... that way you can avoid those embarrasing footpaths or cliffs.

in towns ... it might take a couple of goes ... but i've always managed to get there ...

I've always found my Garmin Nuvi to be great at getting me from A to B.... clear, seriously easy to use and a heck of a lot cheaper than a TomTom..

We have a Garmin Nuvi 660 and it's fab. I used it by myself (speaking as a woman) to go somewhere new at the weekend and it was fantastic, spookily accurate and got me right to the door. The ladies voice wasn't too annoying either!
